Pakistani Medical Relief For Indonesia

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army Medical contingent left for the earthquake- hit areas of Indonesia to conduct rescue and relief operations//. The contingent ,along with a 75-bed field hospital, left for Java on Friday, on a PAF C-130 aircraft..

Lt Col Naseer Ahmed commands the field hospital, which comprises of women doctors, general duty doctors, female nurses and 49 paramedics.

The field hospital boasts of a mobile surgical unit, an operation theatre, X-ray units, an ultrasound set- up,a field laboratory, dental unit, an orthopaedic unit and ten tonnes of medicines. According to a spokesperson,the medical team is capable of treating 300 outdoor patients daily,- and will be deployed in the earthquake-hit area of central Indonesia in two phases, in liasion with another C-130 sortie leaving for Indonesia in a couple of days.

During the team’s send- off at PAF Base Chaklala, Major General Farrukh Seir, the deputy surgeon- general of Pakistan Army told the departing troops to put to full use the experience they have gained over the years. confronting similar catastrophes. ,It must be noted that Pakistan had sent a special task force to Indonesia to carry out relief work after the tsunami too.
