Pakistan has extended the ban on poultry and poultry products from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and four other countries, taking the total number of countries banned to 17.//
The step has come as a precaution against the threat of avian influenza outbreak, said The News.
Last month, Pakistan put a similar ban on 13 countries that include China, Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Turkey, Greece and Romania.
An order issued by the commerce ministry Tuesday also placed captive live pet and fancy birds on the list of banned fowl.
The ban would not apply to the import of de-sugared or de-glucosed whole-egg powder from China, the order said.
