Regular oxygen supplies are facing a setback, after four private companies took over the reins of the contract, from NHS Service, in February, this year. This has created huge problems for patients for whom oxygen supply can mean the difference between life and death. //It is estimated that about 60,000 people are in need of oxygen at home for various life threatening problems.

Home deliveries of Oxygen have taken a beating. A woman reportedly died waiting for the supply of oxygen that did not arrive for a good many hours. The NHS trust is inquiring into the matter along with the firm.

Patients in England and Wales are being advised to avail oxygen supplies from the NHS instead of the private firms, especially when it is required urgently.

Acting chief executive Patrick McGahon said: "We are aware that there are some transitional difficulties with the new home oxygen service and we have been assured by the supplier, Air Products, that the problems will be ironed out shortly."
