A fifteen month old baby is being treated in an obesity clinic in UK. The baby weighs 20kg or 3ST 3lbs that is double the average for his age .

The child was referred to the obesity unit at Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham last month. 'He is the youngest child I have ever treated,' said consultant pediatrician Dr Swati Karandikar.

"It may be that he has hormonal problems or genetic syndrome." She is also treating a 15-year-old lad who weighs 25 stone. But she said: "We believe the cases we see are the tip of the iceberg."

Experts are carrying out tests to see if poor diet or genetic deficiencies are the cause.

Doctors suggest that obese kids under 12 should be taken into care. These overweight children could have complications such as type 2 diabetes or cholesterol problems.

Over the years there has been an increase in number of overweight kids.

Dr Swati Karandikar has been treating number of obese kids. She said: "We give them lifestyle advice and do a session on their diet. We refer them to training clinics too so they can get regular exercise."

She said that all the parents of her patients co-operated with their treatment.
