Overweight: One of the causes of infertility in men.

The connection between overweight and infertility in women is well known, but researchers have indicated, that the outcome may be similar in the case of obese men.//

New research has found that every nine extra kilos of body weight means that a man’s chances of getting infertile are enhanced by 10%. Researchers surveyed 1468 couples who had attempted at pregnancy during the four years prior to participating in the study and whose wives were below 40 years of age. Twenty-eight per cent of the couples were thought to be infertile since they had tried for more than a year to conceive.

The researchers found clear evidence that despite accounting for other factors that could influence fertility, like age, smoking, alcohol intake, pesticide exposure and the wife's health, infertility was on the high when the man’s body mass index was above normal.
