Old are not weak

According to a study, loss of muscle is not an inevitable consequence of ageing. As you age, your body cannot make new muscle protein fast enough and thereby lose muscle strength. Meanwhile a new study from the University of California shows that muscle protein is made as quickly as it is broken down in men over 70. In fact there is no difference in muscle protein turnover between older men and men of average age 28.//

Yet decreases in muscle strength are commonly found as people get older. This study shows that the basic muscle tissue building process is not at fault. It may be that diet, lack of exercise, or hormonal factors contribute to a loss of muscle mass. These are all factors that can be tackled - the good news is that there appears to be no underlying deterioration.
