China is coming to terms with the gnawing reality that its population growth at present is swinging and definitely on an upward trend//. The Chinese government is now going all out to encourage family planning and to appease couples to refrain from having more than one child.

Way back in1979 the same tactics were forced into action, with incentives given to couples with a single child. However today 37 years later reforms are being made to the same old bait to make it more applicable to the present day scenario.

The present government has promised parents who live in rural areas annual payments when they attain sixty years if they are parents of a single child or in the case of multiple offspring the norm is to have only two girls to avail this offer.

The lack of social security has often been capped as the most common reason for families residing in the countryside to opt for more children.

The government has apparently promised to pay the equivalent of about 76 dollars (which tallies to about one- fifth of an average farmer's income) to any family who at the age of sixty can show by way of records to have only one child or just two daughters with noble intentions of easing the load on single children in tending to their aging parents.

Even today China tops the population charts of the world with a whopping 1.3 billion figure billed against it.
