Officials In Turkey Confirm Deaths Due To Bird Flu

Turkey after the bird flu scare had prohibited the hunting and killing of any wild birds. Turkish Environment and Forestry Minister Osman Pepe said that the prohibition would continue// till Turkey has completely worked out on the Bird flu issue. The Eastern part of Turkey has seen two deaths due to bird flu.

The minister has requested the people to remain calm and also asked the support from the people to help the government during the crisis period.

Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Mehmet Mehdi Eker told the press that five regions are detected with bird flu.

Necessary steps are being taken care of by the government and 1100 birds have been culled in Eastern Turkey.

In the province of Dogubayazit and Agri in the Eastern Turkey two deaths have been reported due to bird flu and the security have been tightened.

People going in and out of these two provinces are checked completely and the movements across these provinces are restricted.

All poultry shelters and barns in these regions are sprayed with chemicals to prevent the spread of bird flu.

Protective clothing was given to officials and was employed to check the extent of damage among the birds.

Around 200 poultry have been culled in Yalim Erez District in the Eastern Turkey following the bird flu scare.

Patients from Dogubayazit Township who were brought with similar symptoms are all confirmed that they were suffering from bird flu.

Precautionary measures regarding sale of live animals are also being taken care by the veterinary health department.

Regional governors are requested to meet on Thursday and discuss various measures to combat bird flu. The birds in Turkey, Romania, Russia and Croatia were all tested positive for H5N1 strain of bird flu.
