Obesity may be from weight gained by the newborn,,

Newborn babies who are raised on milk formula with or without breast feeding, weight gain in the first week //of life is the earliest sign of obesity, says a current study.

Babies who are raised on the infant formulations show rapid weight gain from the first week after birth only. This weight gain may continue and may lead to a strong tendency of becoming obese for life.

The study was done on a group of American babies who were raised on baby formula. These people were again observed at the ages of 20 to 32 years to understand their body weight and body mass index. Of these 653 people, almost 32% of them are overweight as adults. For these adults, the period of weight gain from birth to eight days were found to be associated with the obesity of adulthood. Similar kind of association of weight gain in the first week of life and that of an adult was also made for the reference population.

The researches had said that newborn weight gain in the first week f life is a critical factor to decide adult obesity. This may help in understanding how chronic diseases are activated and may suggest new ways to approach the problem of obesity.
