Obesity Makes Treatment of HCV Difficult

Research conducted by scientists at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota has revealed that obesity was a metabolic condition, which could interfere //with the treatment for the Hepatitis C virus (HCV).

Lead researcher Dr. Michael R. Charlton and his colleagues have found that obese patients treated for the chronic hepatitis C virus infection are also more likely to see better results when underlying abnormalities caused by excessive fat tissue are corrected first.

The results of the study published in the medical journal Hepatology has suggested that excess weight in patients with HCV infection can cause inflammation and insulin resistance.

In addition these patients could also be suffering from steatosis,
