Health services in Punjab and Haryana were paralysed today as doctors of both state-run and and private hospitals// stopped the OPDs in the wake of a 'medical bandh' called by the Indian Medical Association to protest the Centre's reservation proposal.
"All OPDs, including parallel ones run by medicos in front of state-run hospitals and private medical institutions have been stopped", Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) Vice President Dr. Anindya Banerjee said here.
The medicos, joined by members of IMA, Indian Dental Association, students of various colleges and universities, chemists associations, among others held massive protest demonstrations across the region, crippling health services in the region to protest the proposed reservation for OBCs in elite educational institutions, officials said.
All private nursing homes, clinics, hospitals and chemist shops remained closed to express solidarity with protesting medicos, Punjab IMA President Dr. D S Gill told PTI here.
The medicos also blocked traffic at several places in the region, officials said.
Meanwhile, officials maintain that the emergency services, ICUs and OTs were handled by consultants of respective faculties.
