Number Of Bird Flu Cases In Switzerland Reaches 11

Following detection of four cases of H5N1 bird flu infection among ducks and coots, the total number of bird flu infected cases in Switzerland rose to 11. All of the new cases detected were found in the northeastern region of the country. //

Two ducks in the northeastern region, a coot in canton Zurich and another in canton Thurgau happen to be the latest victims of the much dreaded bird flu infection. Samples have been sent by the Federal Veterinary Office in Bern have been sent to a European Union laboratory for confirmation of bird flu.

Until now, only a single case of bird flu infection has been confirmed in the country. The presence of large lakes across the county is believed to attract a lot of migratory birds. The presence of bird flu infection in domestic fowl however has been ruled out.

Health officials belonging to the veterinary department have instituted strict monitoring and stringent surveillance measures in the country. With such measures, the number of cases is only likely to increase in the next few days.
