Novel Strain Detected In The Recent Outbreak Of Bird Flu At Ukraine

A new and deadly strain of bird flu outbreak was detected in Ukraine (Crimea peninsula) and hence domestic birds are killed and put in pits that were dug for the purpose//. Health workers and emergency workers are recruited to get their hands on all the birds including (chickens, ducks and geese) and destroy them thereby the outbreak can be contained. Compensation was given to all villagers for every bird that was killed.

Various other measures like checking the movement of people in and out of that particular area, people were asked to vaccinate themselves against human flu and a checkpoint was installed around 10-Km to stop all the migratory birds approaching Ukraine in search of warm climate.

A virus H5 that may be fatal to humans is identified as the sole cause of the disease. Records tell that within a period of three days more than 2500 birds have died and those samples have been sent to various laboratories to investigate whether the deaths were due to this H5N1 virus strain.

The dead birds were reduced to ashes using napalm and then the ashes were put in pits. Further new cases of bird flu were also reported in southeastern Romania.

The issue of the bird flu’s ability to mutate has risen great concern because once it spreads to humans there will be a number of causalities and result in increased death tolls but so far the situation has been kept under control with no human causalities reported.
