Washington Teenage girls are setting new trends in drug abuse- drugs such as antidepressants and tranquilizers are being misused , a report has shown.
Teen boys have been in bad light for the use of illicit drugs. Wanting a slice of the vice, teen girls have become a cause to worry due to the abuse of prescription drugs, according to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.
According to reports, nearly one in 10 teenage girls confessed to using prescription drugs to get a kick vis a vis boys, the ration being one in 13.
Possibly girls take to abuse of prescription drugs to get relief from certain tensions, opine federal officials. According to surveys, boys go for drugs to experience euphoria, while the girls use them to relieve tension, boost their confidence and self esteem. Sometimes girls do it to also lose weight.
"Too many Americans, and increasingly, too many young women simply do not know the addictive potential of these medicines," said John Walters, director of National Drug Control Policy.
Among all the emergency cases related to drug abuse, 55% of them were the fallout of drug abuse among girls. It dropped to 35% for women when the drugs employed were street drugs.
