New South Wales (NSW) Government Plans to Bring Down HIV Infection

The NSW government has sketched out an action plan to bring down the HIV infection by a quarter by 2009. A sum of $300,000 will be allotted to implement a series of programmes towards AIDS awareness and treatment. //

As a part of this campaign, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community would be educated about HIV infection. In corroboration with the general practitioners, information related to HIV prevention also will be circulated.

The funding to the AIDS council of NSW will be supplemented further to enhance the testing procedures. The financial assistance may further be used to conduct extensive research on this disease.

Paul McLeay, the Parliamentary Secretary for Health says that they are very keen to perform a lot of studies which would help them get to the bottom of this issue.
