According to a recent study conducted by the Canadian researchers it was found that nursing home residents who undergo a training reduced their likelihood to land in emergency care//.
The program trained them to monitor and treat pneumonia. These people are trained in a similar way as those specially trained nurses. This has reduced the incoming of patients in to the emergency care by 50%. Dr. Mark Loeb, a professor of pathology and molecular medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario said that the program is a big success.
Nursing home residents who received treatment given in hospitals such as chest X-rays, antibiotics, oxygen blood level monitoring and close attention to trained nurses had a 10 % chance of needing an emergency room care. But on the other hand residents who got the regular treatment, 22 % needed to be hospitalized.
