With an increasing awareness regarding beauty and body solutions, the demand for reconstructive surgery, more specifically plastic surgery has been accelerating steadily over the recent years. The healthy competition amongst several health and fitness concerns // in this regard has not only resulted in improved outcomes but also an affordable treatment cost.

Kolkata, which was previously underdeveloped when compared to the other Indian cities, has also joined the race. It has been proposed to expand the Belle Vue Clinic, a city-based healthcare major, by the end of 2006. A specialized plastic surgery unit was commissioned recently. It has also been planned to convert it into a 200-bedded hospital with an investment of Rs 30 crores.

Head of Belle Vue Clinic, Mr. Pradip Tandon has announced that the expansion plan would be marked by diversification of the clinic into the arena of eye care. Arvind Eye Care Hospital based at Madurai would assist the clinic in the expansion plan, the main target of which is to promote surgery. It is notable that the eye clinic has already won the appreciation for it’s specialized eye care on a global level.

Out of the 10 new operation theatres that would be set up soon, three would be exclusively to eye care. The rest would cater to various types of specialized plastic surgery. Provisions have already been made to interconnect the two facilities. This would facilitate the addition of another 100 beds to the existing strength of 100 by the end of 2006.

The increase in the number of queries from general public regarding plastic surgery is said to have prompted for the establishment of a specialized reconstructive surgery unit. The unit has currently four doctors dealing with dealing with diverse areas ranging from cosmetic to cardio-vascular surgery.
