A new drug called Azilect manufactured by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. is said to help people with //disabilities from Parkinson’s disease.

According to the latest investigations, Azilect also called Rasagiline can improve the physical abilities of patients suffering from Parkinson’s. Rasagiline is a new drug and when taken along with the treatment of Levodopa, can cause some irreversible changes in the body that will increase the extent of motor activities for the patient with Parkinson’s.

Parkinson’s disease is a disorder of the nervous system. Some of its symptoms are muscle tremors, muscle rigidity, decreased mobility, stooped posture, slow voluntary movements, and a mask-like facial expression. One of the treatments of this disorder is the drug Levodopa. When given in conjunction with this, the new drug Rasagiline is said to lessen the off hours (hours during which any drug has least effect) of Levodopa by about half-an hour daily. This is good news for patients who have been suffering from this disorder for very long and find their body resisting the effect of the drug Levodopa.

Azilect is waiting for approval by Food and Drug administration of USA before it can be marketed.

Once available in the market, the drug may bring relief to millions of people suffering from the dreaded Parkinson’s disease.
