New Cardiovascular risk guidelines drafted

Professor David Woods with other scientists from British Cardiac Society, the British Hypertension Society, Diabetes UK, HEART UK, the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society // and the Stroke Association have collaboratively drafted guidelines for preventing cardiovascular risks of heart attacks, stroke and hardening of leg arteries. The new guidelines is drafted to reduce the risk of developing heart attacks by properly maintaining one’s lifestyle and early detection of risks associated with heart attacks so that early treatment could be started to prevent heart attacks. The new guidelines drafted by the Joint British society provide guidelines for increasing the screening and prevention of heart attacks.

People with high risk of cardiovascular disease are monitored with blood pressure, blood cholesterol and blood sugar and if their risk of developing cardiovascular disease is higher the risk of developing heart attacks are high. The patients are screened for cardiovascular disease following the below criteria (Source: Eurekalert):

Criteria or Group I: All adults aged 40 and older, with no history of heart attack, stroke, or diabetes, and not already being treated for high blood pressure or cholesterol.

Criteria or Group II: All adults under 40 with a family history of developing hardened and narrowed arteries earlier than expected.
