Naughty boys can dry up your coffers and bring it to naught. Apart from the ordeal of suffering a naughty child, psychiatrists say that rearing an ill-behaved child// turns out to be an awfully expensive proposition for the parents and for the society too. It is estimated that a raucous child can inflict damages to the parents, the NHS, social services and schools to the tune of an additional ￡6,000 annually on an average.

But the most part of the ordeal is faced by the parents, often evident in repairing the damages to their home, abstaining from work etc, which amounts to almost ￡4,637 a year.

The figures enabled by a team, from the Institute of Psychiatry in London, interviewed the parents of 80 children, who had sought assistance in managing their badly behaved children between the ages of 3 and 8.

It was found that nearly 75% of the children who were brought for treatment of bad behavior were boys and belonged to the 1 per cent nation-wide figures for antisocial behavior. Nearly two thirds of the parents resorted to additional nursery assistance and one third were still soliciting counseling from a psychologist.

This study is published in the British Journal of Psychiatry.
