Nanoparticles and Their Damage to Liver Cells

According to the Research conducted by the scientists at the University of Edinburgh, it is understood that nanoparticles present in the air may have an adverse// effect on the liver cells. These nanoparticles are mainly found in the pollution from traffic exhaust, household goods such as paint, sunblock, food, cosmetics and clothes.

Nanoparticles are atoms and molecules 80,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair, with various properties according to their composition, which explains their widespread usage. These particles enter the lungs and affect human health which later venture in to the blood stream crossing the lung barrier.

Particles in the blood can reach the liver, and it is also known that nanoparticles directly injected into the blood for medical purposes are also likely to end up in the liver.

But further research is needed to understand their elimination process from the human body. It is still not identified whether these particles are safely eliminated by specialized cells in the liver or whether they enter the liver cells and disrupt their normal functioning.
