NRIs Called Upon To Participate In AIDS Awareness Programs

People of Indian origin (PIO) and Non-Resident Indians (NRI) have been called upon by Oscar Fernandes, the Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs // to take an active part in the AIDS awareness campaigns being conducted in India. The Government is seeking the involvement of related agencies and organizations to contribute towards this effort.

Fernandes, made this announcement while addressing the Panel Discussion on HIV/AIDS in India-Role of Diaspora. While praising the work done by the Andhra Pradesh State Government towards this end by promoting sex education at the school level, he said much more needs to be done towards this end.

The India-Role of Diaspora have been called upon to adopt districts which are their native lands aimed at maintaining primary health centers. The Government gives a very high priority to ensuring that Indians are safe from this disease. A lot of attention has to be paid to the vulnerable groups in the country to achieve this objective.
