NHS announces further Cost cutting Measures

Debt- ridden NHS hospitals have announced further job cuts with three NHS hospitals in Worcestershire being the latest hit. The affected hospitals are the Worcestershire Royal Hospital// in Worcester, the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, and Kidderminster Hospital.

The hospitals which were run by the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, will decrease approximately 15 percent of their staff in order to save around 8 million pounds in the coming financial year and 16 million pounds the year after.

With a debt of around 5.5 million pounds in the financial year2005to 2006 cost cutting measures seem to be the order of the day. Even more serious is the huge gap between the expected income and the cost involved in providing services of at least the present standards.

NHS is forecast to have accumulated a financial debt of about 760 million pounds during the past financial year. Conservative health spokesman Andrew Lansley has forecasted a loss of at least 20,000 jobs from the NHS, as a result of cost cutting measures.
