NHS To Reorganize Ambulance Services

Faced with a severe cash crunch, the NHS has decided to go ahead with implementing some reforms in order to trim its services.// The first step being the merger of the three ambulance services in Yorkshire into one single organization.

The idea in integrating the services is that it will save millions of pounds, which seems to be the prime requirement at the moment. Although this means that most managers and backroom staff will be made redundant, the frontline services are expected to be unaffected.

Last year a Government review had recommended that ambulance services should deliver better performances. Currently the 999 services are not going to be affected under the new plans. It is thought that in future ambulance services could become more mobile.

Unions seem to agree with these plans at present, but are concerned about the impact on jobs.
