NHS Employees Score Over Other Private Staffs In Taking Leave

A report said: ‘When compared to private sector employees, NHS staff take more leave per year’.

A report from Nursing Standard Magazine //and NHS Information Centre says, about 12 days (4.5% of working days) per year seems to be the sick leave taken by an average of staffs in NHS.

Bosses' organisation NHS Employers sick leave corresponds to fall to an average of 4.7% during 2003. So they have planned to reduce long-term absence by launching a drive on it. CBI also reports a low leave percentage in the private sector (six days a year).

Staff working in the administrative, strategic and special health authorities were found to be absent only for about 2.8%, the least when compared to north east and north west staffs, a survey reports.

Confederation of British Industry and insurance group AXA reports that public sector organizations scores over 30% than private sector in making themselves absence.

The chief executive of the Ambulance Service Association, Richard Diment, feels that stress from handling potential traumatic situations may be the reason for a higher absenteeism rate. ‘If counselling, stress relief programmes and occupational health services are provided, nurses feel more support and safety in their carrier’ – a spokesman from Royal College of Nursing says.
