NGOs and Various Groups Come Together To Address the Issues on AIDS

AIDS in are country is deep-rooted and hence various organizations are putting in their effort to combat the deadly disease. Various organizations are working towards the complete eradication// of the disease from the face of the earth. One such step is taken by the Manipur AIDS Control Society, India, and asked all the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) who are thriving day and night to fight against the disease, to work as a unit. It asked them to co operate with each other to strengthen their ability and build common resources to fight the epidemic of AIDS in the state. Binod Kumar its project director told the press on the occasion of the society launching a three-day capacity-building initiative for NGOs working in this field. The work shop was organized by the Delhi-based Futures Group International (FGI). He addressed the people and urged them to work in unison.

The fight against AIDS is been carried out in 5 different states in India. Manipur and Nagaland are considered to be among the five high-risk states. Project Orchid which is also involved in the process of AIDS awareness program is sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr Langkham, director of this Project said that NGOs must be groomed to tackle diverse challenges, strengthen local responses and work towards building a scenario where the community and their representatives shape and lead the HIV prevention efforts. FGI national advocacy co-ordinator Shaleen was very impressed by the new innovative idea and asked the NGOs to make use of the opportunity to fight against the disease as a community-led effort. A large number of representatives of several NGOs attended the HIV/AIDS workshop whose main aim was to prevent the use of drugs and spread of HIV.
