NBE to conduct test for medical students from abroad

National Board of Examinations has decided to conduct tests for any Indian doctor having graduated abroad avid of starting a practice in the country, to ensure a higher standards amongst doctors, the government has made it compulsory from //the 15th of next month official sources said today.

The new regulations, which were published in the Indian Gazzette yesterday, specify that students who want to enrol in MBBS course abroad will have to take an ‘eligibility certificate’ from the Medical Council of India from March 15. The certificate would have to be produced by the person concerned when he/she comes back to India for starting a practie, they said.

The screening test would be conducted by the National Board of Examinations twice a year and a person would be allowed only three chances to clear it, they said. “We are writing to all the embassies in the country, External Affairs Ministry, state governements, and our embassies in other countries regarding the changes,” the sources said. The India Medical Council Act was amended last year to incorporate these provisions, they said.
