More Research Needed To Fully Study the Effect of Folate on Prostate Cancer

Folate is a vitamin which is very essential for our body functioning. According to a recent study conducted by Dr. Victoria L. Stevens and colleagues //from the American Cancer Society, Atlanta, it is found that intake of folate influences the severity of prostate cancer. It does not lower the risk of developing prostate cancer. The results of the study were published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. The researchers examined about 65,836 men in the Cancer Prevention Study II Nutrition Cohort.

Out of which 5158 subjects were selected as they were diagnosed with prostate cancer. The research team analysed their intakes of folate over a period of 12 months. No significant association was observed between dietary folate intake and prostate cancer risk. But greater the folate consumption the person was found to suffer from decreased risk of having advanced prostate cancer. But further study has to be done to understand the relationship as the result was not statistically significant.
