A recent report has shown the increase in the number of licenses issued to foreign-trained doctors by the Ontario College of Physicians// and Surgeons- 42 per cent of the 2,961 new licenses have been given to internationally trained medical graduates.

Among the foreign-trained doctors who received licenses, only one-third received certification for medical practice, while the rest were enabled education licenses or positions for postgraduate training.

It was also observed that only 9.6 per cent of general practitioners widened their practice. The availability of family physicians also witnessed a decline due to retirement of doctors or doctors shifting their practice to other locations. The ever-growing population of Ontario has escalated the problem, placing a demand on health services.
