Family Welfare Minister Ahmad Hasan has suspended 13 officials including deputy CMO of Moradabad due to laxity in implementing the Pulse Polio drive.// The minister took this step against the employees of the Health department in Western UP after it emerged that despite conducting the program on a massive scale 12 children had been found affected by the polio virus.

In due course of investigation, the reasons behind fresh Polio cases in Moradabad, Badayun, Bulandshahr and Farrukhabad surfaced. The senior officers found that the Polio immunization programme was not conducted honestly,” the minister said. He added that the officials argued that they had acted properly, but the virus had still spread. This argument did not hold any water with him. The same Polio drop has saved children even in Bihar, then why cannot it save our children? Mr Hasan asked. He added that a fresh phase of Polio drive would begin from April 9. 'This time the officers have been asked to be more alert and cover cent percent children in the state,” he said. His comments came after it emerged that 12 children had been infected this year. Mr Hasan said that control rooms had been set up in Moradabad to closely monitor the situation.
