Research in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery and Psychiatry suggests that // Family doctors are twice likely to write-out prescriptions to middle aged women with headache as compared to men of the same age.

Headaches normally spur the patients to a doctor and account for nearly 20% of sick leave cases. The findings are reported after study of consultations and referrals recorded for 9 years, till the year 2000, in the United Kingdom.

It has also revealed that consultations were happening more often between the ages of 15 and 24, in both men and women, though women were 3 times drawn towards Doctors to seek help for headaches.
