Mental Disorders On The Rise In China

China's spending on mental health is reportedly very high, accounting for 20 percent of its spending on health, according to an official at a recent// medical-care symposium in the capital city of south China's Hainan Province. This figure is expected to rise further to 25 percent in 2020 according to Qi Xiaoqiu, Head of the Disease Control and Prevention Department of the Ministry. A total 16 million people suffer from mental disorders in China.

Abnormal behaviour of children, psychological problems of students, senile dementia and depression, drug abuse and suicide attempts are on the rise across the nation. Qi said China has built 600-plus medical institutes to cater to people with mental disorders, involving 120,000 beds and 15,000 doctors.
