Medicos Stir On, Hospital Ransacked After Patients Death

With the medicos' agitation against reservation continuing here despite the Supreme Court appeal to withdraw it // , the casualty ward of the MKCG Medical College Hospital here was today ransacked by a group of people who alleged that negligence caused death of a patient.

Simanchal Jena (55) of Ankuli near here was rushed to the hospital after suffering a snake bite. He died subsequently.

'We brought him to the hospital immediately after a cobra bit him. But he died because no doctor was available to treat him,' his relatives alleged.

The victim was the father-in-law of Subash Maharana, the BJD town president.

The irate group of people smashed tables, beds and windows of the casualty department and staged a 'rasta roko' outside to protest against the 'negligence'. The doctor on duty came after two hours, Maharana alleged.

Police said no one had been arrested in this connection as no FIR had been received.

'However, police is maintaining vigil on the situation and two platoons of police had been deployed in the hospital,' Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said. Superintendent incharge of the hospital, Dr. R.N.Mangual said he was yet to assess the damages caused in the attack. But he had informed the police about the incident, he said.
