Medicos' Plan Anti-Quota Stir In Mumbai; Bollywood To Join Up

Mumbai doctors will be joined by other professionals including Bollywood stars in a peace march on May 21 to protest against the quota// increase for OBCs in higher educational institutions.

"We will assemble at Birla Matorshri Hall in south Mumbai and march towards Azad Maidan," Ashish Tiwari, convener of the Indian Medical Association Mumbai Chapter told reporters. The march will also demand that a judicial probe be held into the baton-charge on the medical students on May 12, 2006 outside the Governors' residence.

Mr Tiwari said that professionals from General Practioner’s Association, Urological Society International, Physiotherapy Association, Youth For Equality, and All India Jain Doctors Association will also participate in the march. "We expect the protest to take a shape of a movement in the country," he said.

IMA Mumbai Chapter President Sunita Khsirsagar demanded that a probe should be commissioned, "We also demand apology from Police Commissioner A N Roy for making a public statement that there was no lathi-charge against the peaceful agitation of students."
