Medicines on the move

The American Pharmaceutical Association has given out a list of instructions for those travelling on business or pleasure trips to help continue safe use of prescription and over-the-counter medicines.

1. Be informed: A schedule of the drugs that you are taking at the moment should be kept handy. This is all the more necessary when you take different medicines at different times of the day. This will help you adjust to changes in time zones and changes in daily routine.//

2. Reason for medication: A note of the reasons for each of the medications that you take will be of help if you have to see a doctor or go to a hospital while you are travelling. This will give the medical staff an idea of your health condition.

3. How to carry the medicines? - All medications should be carried in your hand luggage irrespective of whether the trip is long or short. This way you can avoid skipping your mediaction in case your luggage is stolen or held up.

4. Storage: All mediactions should be carried in their original containers and more than the required amount should be carried in order to help you in case the trip is extended or delayed.

5. Pharmacist's Advice: Before leaving on your trip take your pharmacist's advice on possible reactions of the drugs that you are taking with the foods that you are likely to consume during your trip.

And finally - Do not drink alcohol when you travel, if you are under medication.
