After the IIM's, it is now medical colleges all set to shock parents of modest means and desirous of children becoming doctors//.
This goes for people based in Karnataka where the fee of private medical colleges is extremely high for 2006-07 session.
The respite comes through the Fee Fixation Committee headed by Justice H Rangavittalachar, which has reduced it drastically, which as usual has left colleges fuming.
The college which quoted the highest annual fee of Rs 10 lakh was Bangalore-based MVJ Medical College & Research Hospital. The committee has kept it pending for the benefit of the masses.
The Committee has not gone into it because the college is yet to receive approval from the Government of India and the Medical Council of India.
Some other quotations are as follows:-
S Nijalingappa Medical College in Bagalkot had wanted Rs 8.02 lakh but has been allowed only Rs 1.13 lakh.
Navodaya Medical College in Raichur quoted for Rs 6.91 lakh but has been told to collect Rs 1.13 lakh.
Father Muller Medical College in Mangalore sought Rs 3.17 lakh, and allowed Rs 1.17 lakh.
St John Medical College in Bangalore quoted Rs 1.49 lakh and allowed the sum.
Same goes for dental colleges. The Maratha Mandal's Dental College, Hospital and Research Centre in Belgaum demanded the highest of Rs 3.90 lakh towards the annual fee for BDS course.
The method of selection was that the committee engaged 36 cost accountants to arrive at the fee, and considered the following principal parameters to assess the fee.
For your knowledge here are mentioned some fees for MBBS of some states
Karnataka: Rs 1.13 lakh - Rs 1.88 lakh
Maharashtra: Rs 61,000 - Rs 1.54 lakh
Rajasthan: Rs 1,70 lakh - Rs 1.85 lakh
Kerala: Rs 1.15 lakh.
So day by day medical education is becoming costlier so some steps need to be taken.
