Medical Gadgets To Monitor Drug Delivery

Innovative technology such as electronic wristbands is developed to deliver better systems that provides patient safety and reduces Human errors. Wristbands are developed which provides information about the patient’s history and // treatment requirements are being used in hospitals now to prescribe, dispense and administer the correct dosage of drug.

The wrist bands contain electronic system which is similar to the one used in shops to detect theft of goods. A student from Brunel University, UK has designed an electronic wrist band that ensures that patients receive the correct medication by matching an electronic chip in the bracelet with an electronic chip in the drug’s packaging. The incidence of medical errors are very high to busy clinical environment and it is necessary for the medical personnel to use these innovative technologies to reduce the medical errors and it is well known that the medical personnel and institutes are very slow to adapt to some of the new systems engineering tools, which has shown great improvements in commercial sector.

The Institute of Medicine estimates that medical errors cause up to 98 000 deaths a year in hospitals in the USA. In October 2004 WHO launched the World Alliance for Patient Safety to help countries develop safety policies and practices.
