"No Child Without," is the new program run by the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation. It now waives the fees for subscribing //to the service and for procuring the special bracelet or necklet.
Children up to 14 years old with medical problems such as allergies, asthma and diabetes in participating elementary schools will be provided full MedicAlert protection free.
According to this foundation about five per cent of children studying in Canadian schools are afflicted by medical conditions that require MedicAlert protection. "Children with medical conditions are at risk whenever they leave their home," MedicAlert President and CEO Martin Kabat said in a statement.
"(We want to give) every student in every school the full protection of MedicAlert (and) our mission is to deliver this free to all these students."
With MedicAlert, relevant information of people with serious medical conditions are provided to a central registry. Members are provided with an identifiable bracelet or medallion that has relevant information engraved on it along with an ID number and a 24-hour emergency hotline number.
In conditions when the person needs help, such as any allergic reaction leading to shock or unconsciousness, the hotline can be called for the details of the student’s condition or required treatment.
"This initiative will make a positive difference in the lives of the families who rely on the MedicAlert bracelet," said Jim Watson , the Ontario's Minister of Health Promotion, about the new program. '"/>
