Men who had a surgery as part of the treatment for prostrate cancer seem to cope better when //they have the support of their spouses. Such men reported better psychological and social well being after the surgery than their loner counterparts. Married men had fewer fears about their well being after surgery than men who did not have the support of a partner.

The research which is slated to come out in the July issue of journal Cancer, says that prostrate surgery results were better for men with their support of their loved ones that can improve the quality of life for them.

Quality of life becomes important for men with prostrate cancer as they will probably have a long life with the disease and their psychological well being can go a long way in curing their physical ailments.

The researchers had looked at the life after surgery for men belonging to the low socio-economic group and taken their answers to test for mental health, spirituality, stress created by urinary dysfunction and adverse affects caused by their treatment of prostrate cancer.

The researchers, based on their findings, had said that since cancer survival depends a lot on the support of the patients families, it is important for the single patient to join a support group to give themselves the social security needed for a speedy recovery.
