Marijuana Beneficial in Fighting Lung Tumors, Study

New research has shown the benefits of a key ingredient in Cannabis, which may help fight lung cancer//.

Early research had shown that cannabis could help fight brain, prostate and skin cancers. The compound called THC was found to inhibit lung tumor growth by 50%, during studies conducted on mice, suggesting that THC could be having a therapeutic effect.

During the study, the researchers observed that THC was able to curb the growth and spread of cells in lung tumors. Researchers injected THC into mice which had received implants of human lung cancer cells. Tumors reduced in size by 50%, compared to mice which did not receive this treatment.

Paul B. Fisher, PhD, a professor of clinical pathology at Columbia University, commented that the research is certainly interesting but is still at a very early stage. He questions, “The issue with using a drug of this type becomes the window of concentration that will be effective. Can you physiologically achieve what you want without causing unwanted effects?”
