A man whose health and normal life was affected by a parrot was rendered an amount of ￡ 700,000 as compensation.//

Glyn Atherton of Derbyshire who used to work for a pet shop had fallen sick and was admitted to the hospital. His initial symptoms were very much like ordinary fever. But subsequent diagnosis revealed that he was suffering from psittacosis.

While at work, though he did not have direct contact with the sick African Grey but he is said to have passed by it many a times. The sick bird had later died of infection.

This illness has totally bound him to a wheel chair now. Initially he found it extremely difficult to walk for even 20 yards. Later this disease has incapacitated him to a larger extent when he could neither drive nor walk. His normal life has come to a standstill.

His compensation has been settled out of court by the shop that he worked for who acknowledged the damages caused to him by the parrot.
