Malarial Epidemic In Tripura Takes Its Death Toll To 65

Health officials in Tripura have announced that, they are taking preventive steps with as many as 65 people having died of malaria from the past three months//.

A senior health official has said that a Central team is also scheduled to visit Tripura to assess the situation and to provide expert help to deal with reports of drug resistance. He also stated that almost 200 teams, consisting of health workers and volunteers, are currently engaged across the state in distributing anti-malaria drugs and other preventive medicines. He explained that teams of doctors and paramedics have spread well into the interior areas to help treat the people.

It has been reported that at least 30 people have died at Gandachara subdivision under Dhalai district alone. The state government has requisitioned air force helicopters to help rush the doctors and health workers to remote areas. The official said that they have organised over 1,200 health camps in all the four districts of the state and have treated about 50,000 people. It was explained that the services of teachers and educated youths are being engaged to cooperate with the health workers in the anti-malaria campaign. Medicated mosquito nets are being distributed in vulnerable areas by the authorities.
