MP Junior Doctors Continue Strike

Continuing their strike as part of anti-quota agitation, junior doctors in Madhya Pradesh today promised to call it off // , if the state government gives written assurance to abide by the Supreme Court's directives and refrain from taking action against them for staging the protests.

'We are ready to join work if the state government gives written assurance of abiding by apex court directives,' state junior doctors association (JDA) general secretary Dr Anand Rai told PTI here.

This was decided at a meeting of representatives of junior doctors of medical colleges in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Rewa and Jabalpur, he said adding, the government should not consider the duration of strike as break-in-service, restore tenure of PG students and refrain from taking legal action against them.

'It should also not deduct our stipends, as threatened by Deans of some medical colleges,' Rai said.

A delegation of junior doctors met state officials, but failed to get a satisfatory reply as both the Medical Education Minister and the Chief Minister were pre-occupied, he said.

Claiming that students of all medical colleges in the state struck work and continued the relay-hunger strike, the JDA office-bearer said the protest will continue till their demands are met.

Accusing the Centre of making false promises of increasing seats, he claimed that medical colleges in the state were under-staffed and lack infrastructure, which will prevent the Medical Council of India from granting permission to do so.
