The Bombay High Court today held that medical colleges should give provisional admissions in reserved quotas if candidate has not got caste validity certificate despite applying for the same. //

A candidate, in such case, must submit the certificate within 90 days of the admission, the court held.

For getting benefit of caste-based quotas, a candidate has to provide a caste certificate and a caste-validity certificate (CVC).

Caste validity certificate is given by government's scrutiny committees which verifies the certificates.

Deepika Nandanwar, a medical college aspirant, had filed a petition before the High Court stating that scrutiny committees do not give these certificates in time and medical colleges are not allowed to grant admission (in SC/ST/OBC quotas) in the absence of CVCs.

Her lawyer Ramchandra Mendadkar pointed out that in case of Engineering colleges, students are given ninety days to submit caste validity certificates, and till then they are given provisional admissions, but same concession is not allowed in Health Science admissions.
