Limit Consumption of Sound salmon

Consumption of Puget Sound salmon must be limited because of harmful chemicals that may be present in some fish, according to state health officials on Thursday. //

Following the study of toxic substances in Puget Sound fish, the health department has handed out new advice for eating Chinook salmon.

Their study revealed that that Chinook and certain other species of fish have high levels of mercury and PCBs, which is a banned industrial chemical.

Therefore so as to avoid these harmful substances, the Health Department recommends limiting Chinook salmon to one meal per week, and resident Chinook, or blackmouth, to two meals per month.

According to officials these meal limits are especially important for young children and women of child bearing ages, because mercury and PCBs lead to behavioral and learning problems.
