Lightning Kicks Up a Furore in the Mobile Industry

According to a recent study done in UK it was found that mobile phone used in stormy weather results in serious injury from lightning strikes//. Doctors have warned that there is an increased risk if mobile phones were used in stormy weather conditions. The charge from the lightning is conducted over the skin without entering the body. But conductive materials, such as metallic objects and liquids, would direct the strike inside the body and result in internal injury causing disability and death.

In one such instance a 15-year-old girl was struck by lightning while using her mobile in a London park. Though she survived she is in a wheelchair with physical, mental and emotional problems. Statistics show that about 30-60 people are struck by lightning each year in Britain. The doctors from Northwick Park Hospital in London said that awareness should be created about the risks of mobile phones. But a spokesman for the Mobile Manufacturers Forum (MMF), said that there is no scientific evidence linking the danger associated with mobile phones and lightning.
