Liberia in safe hands with respect to HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS, the disease is increasing day by day and the mortality rate is also directly proportional to the raise.

To put an end to the increasing number of AIDS/HIV patients// United Nations Development Program HIV/AIDS program (UNDP) has appointed 29 HIV/AIDS Counselors.

This program was started under the Global Fund for AIDS in Liberia.

The main idea behind this program is to impede the raise in the number of people affected by AIDS/HIV in the country.

This can be done by creating awareness among the people of Liberia. Prior to admission the AIDS/HIV counselors underwent a two week intensive training program which tested their ability to diagnose, evaluate and thereby prevent the spread of this deadly disease among the people of Liberia.

The training was conducted at the White House Compound in Congo Town by the Lutheran Church HIV/AIDS Department.

The AIDS/HIV counselors were give assurance that they will be continually supported by the UNDP Global AIDS Fund financially.

The task of these counselors is that they have to bring together resources from various fields to help set up voluntary testing centers throughout the country.

The counselors were very thankful for the support given by the UNDP, the National AIDS Control Program and the Lutheran Church authorities.

The counselors were chosen from a wide sector of services and included pastors, educators and social workers who were willing to dedicate their lives towards this cause of reducing the increase in the number of AIDS/HIV patients.
