Liberated British Mothers Want No Restriction on Breast Feeding In Public

Campaigners have handed a petition to the prime minister to increase the support for breastfeeding mothers.//

The campaigners have summoned support from both MPs and actress Emma Thompson. They are also planning to conduct a demonstration outside the Department of Health. The support group Best Beginnings has asked the government to set up a national breastfeeding strategy whose main aim is to protect a woman's right to breastfeed in public in England. They also want the group to be headed by a national infant feeding co-ordinator.

The law which supports breastfeeding in public is already in place in Scotland. The entire event is organized by Alison Baum, the founder of campaign group Best Beginnings, and is backed by the National Childbirth Trust (NCT), the Royal College of Midwives, and the Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association. MPs David Kidney (Lab), Annette Brooke (Lib Dem) and Sarah Teather (Lib Dem) will go with Ms Baum to give the petition. This is done to increase the support and raise awareness for breastfeeding mothers so that they are made to be felt comfortable and able to breastfeed for as long as they want and where they want.
