Campaigners have announced that there is a lack of specialist service in Scotland to treat cocaine users//.

According to the Scottish Drugs Forum, in spite of the rise in the number of deaths due to cocaine in Scotland, there are only 2 publicly funded centres specifically for cocaine users. These centers are in the east of Scotland, in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. 1-in-5 drug-related deaths in greater Glasgow area is caused by cocaine. The highest number of drug-related deaths since 1996 was reported in 2005, cocaine was responsible for 44 deaths.

David Liddell, director of the forum, said: "Much more requires to be done to respond to the ever-growing problems posed by Scotland's increased cocaine use. "Cocaine's image means that messages on risk must be seen as being credible and realistic by current and potential users, otherwise they will ignore what they're told. "Cocaine users who develop a problem will require treatment quite different from that offered by traditional services, which tend to be geared to heroin-related problems."
