Laborious efforts of NHS Trust to confine labor to homes

The Healthcare NHS Trust at Scarborough and North East Yorkshire which provides acute healthcare to the 220,000 residents of Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale and Bridlington// is presently facing a dilemma. The management officials have announced that the Trust in an attempt to overcome the severe financial crunch has come to a decision to encourage mothers–to-be to have deliveries at home.

The Trust which is running into deep financial trenches with projected annual expenses overflowing to an excess of 4.5 million pounds more than allotted funds is trying cost cutting measures to allay a severe debt. The Trust is trying to reduce the number of in patients who may actually not need a long hospital stay thereby cutting the costs and saving the federal treasury’s funds.

This decision was reached by the board only after discussions with midwives who opined that majority of mothers have voiced a desire to have home deliveries. However many patients and other individuals have raised their voice against this move criticizing that this could negatively affect the quality of health care.

The new CEO of the Trust while taking stock of the situation admits that the transition is going to be painful but is optimistic that it will eventually work out for the good of both the mothers–to-be and the NHS which apparently is struggling to make both ends meet.
